Camps & Experiences

Hills Christian Community School offers a sequential and vast array of Camps and Experiences for students

Year Level Camps

Year 1

Big Night In

The camp journey begins close to home with the Year 1 Big Night In. Held on campus, this experience gently introduces students to the HILLS camp programme in a familiar setting. Through Literacy, Numeracy and Science activities beyond the school day, students build confidence and independence while enjoying interactive play, a shared meal, sunset observations and cooking damper with familiar educators.

Year 2

Zoo Snooze

An overnight stay at Adelaide Zoo marks the first step away from campus for Year 2 students. During the Zoo Snooze, students explore the zoo alongside keepers, enjoy a BBQ dinner, take part in an animal close up experience and join a guided night walk after dark. Sleeping indoors at the Education Centre, students wake to the sounds of wildlife and a guided morning experience.

Year 3

Mylor Adventure Camp

As students grow more confident away from home, the Year 3 Mylor Adventure Camp introduces greater challenge. Set in the Adelaide Hills, students take part in outdoor activities and group challenges led by qualified instructors. Working together, encouraging one another and trying new experiences helps students build resilience, confidence and teamwork.

Year 4

El Shaddai

Time away extends further during the Year 4 camp at El Shaddai in Wellington. Over several days, students live and learn together while participating in a range of outdoor activities. Shared routines, responsibilities and challenges support growing independence and help strengthen friendships within the year level.

Year 5

Wirraway Homestead

By Year 5, students are ready for increased responsibility and independence. At Wirraway Homestead in Strathalbyn, students take part in activities such as horse riding and team challenges, guided by experienced instructors. Camp life encourages cooperation, leadership and responsibility as students learn to support themselves and others.

Year 6

Canberra

The primary years conclude with the Year 6 Canberra Camp, a significant milestone in the camps programme. Students visit key national institutions linked to Civics, Citizenship and History while travelling and staying together. The experience builds independence, resilience and strong peer connections as students prepare for the move into secondary school.

Year 7

Murraylands Aquatics

The transition into secondary school is supported through the Year 7 Murraylands Aquatics Camp. Through shared water based activities and challenges, students build trust, teamwork and confidence. The camp helps establish a strong sense of belonging as students form new friendships and adjust to secondary life.

Year 8

South East

Learning beyond the classroom takes shape during the Year 8 South East Experience. Based in Robe and surrounding regions, students explore coastal and regional environments while participating in activities connected to Science and Humanities. Extended time together encourages teamwork, problem solving and independence.

Year 9

The Rite Journey - Tasmania

The Year 9 Tasmanian Experience is a pivotal point in the HILLS camps journey. Aligned with the Rite Journey programme, students attend in single gender groups across separate weeks. Through challenge, reflection and shared experiences, students develop resilience, independence and a deeper understanding of themselves, their peers and their relationships.

Year 10

Canberra

As students mature, the Year 10 Canberra Camp revisits the nation’s capital with a deeper academic focus. Students explore Australian government, history and science through visits to national institutions. Increased independence and shared responsibility support personal growth as students move toward the senior years.

A new camp experience for Year 10 is being currently designed – beginning 2027.

Year 11

Melbourne

In Year 11, students engage with culture, history and contemporary life through a four day experience in Melbourne. Visiting galleries, museums, memorials and performance spaces, students broaden their perspectives while reflecting on leadership, identity and strengths. Navigating the city together encourages independence, responsibility and strong peer connections.

Year 12

Victor Harbor Retreat

The camps journey concludes with the Year 12 Retreat at Victor Harbor. Beginning the final year of schooling, students spend time strengthening relationships, reflecting on their journey and setting intentions for the year ahead. The retreat supports wellbeing, belonging and focus as students step into their final year at HILLS.
